Ferns ,Brambles and a wee secret

On the A835 south of Ullapool just as you get to the foot of Beinn Eildeach you will see a wee gate hidden on the left.

Take the time to stop and i tell you it will be a stop you will remember forever…

I have been to this wee hidden path many times and each time i leave with a huge smile and ready to face the world again.

Jump the rusty old gate and you will see a path leading off to the right , take it and quickly you will be faced with a wall ten feet and more tall , Ferns and brambles seem to block all and any attempt to carry on .

But push on and slowly the path will open but be ready to be scratched by brambles as if alive trying all in their power to stop you reaching the SECRET of the wee path .
Every few steps you will be tripped up and as you make your way further and further in the  light from the sun will fade to nothing .
Don’t be scared and take a wee tip get doon on your knees and the path will unfold before you , eventually you will come to a tree with branches reaching oot and all touching the ground , pull one back and there you will see

Seals at play anything from a single one to 7 , 10 or more and if you emerge gently they will watch you approach but then carry on 
To watch seals at play truly a wonderful gift …

Heya Friends - here's a sneak preview of a song i'm putting into the 'Song Writing Contest' on the 'Scotland Is Alive With Music' page on Facebook. The song has to convey that idea somehow. My song is called 'The Lion Beneath The Stars.' You'll find it on the link here to iSound, which i've only just opened, just to try the format out. Getting the old tin can up and over the mountain roads..

With the moon streaming a golden glow on the loch the old truck steadily clocking up the miles ,all is well.

Then ahead the site of the road seemingly too disappear into the clouds sends a wee shudder though all in the old tin can .



with a gentle tap on the dash to reassure the old wagon that she can do it we head at maximum speed ( well 46mph) confident that all will be ok .



Then as the road begins to climb the gears are engaged first 4th and all to soon we are doon to 2nd but quickly she settles in and begins the climb . a quick glance to the right and far far below is the beach we had spend the night . turning back to the road i could see it climb even steeper .

I turned to Mel, Dylan and Custard all were sitting wide eyed . Mels mouth wide open as if locked in mid sentence even the dogs seem to have their paws crossed and they also sat bolt upright and mouths wide open tongue’s dangling in fear .

But as so many times before the old tin can climbed and climbed until the summit came into view and at last i was able to ease back the throttle and free wheel a while,

temp dropping and the view ahead the reward for the effort then just as we all started to smile again and chatter resumed the site roon the next corner

plunged all in the can to silence . except for the occasional “ SHITE, SHITE “



The road plunging doon and doon , quickly i engaged 2nd gear and gingerly made oor way doon the CLIFF .

with only the odd we squeek for the front right brake ( need to re-grease it )

At the bottom i pulled in a checked all was ok , for the next mile or so nothing was said until i found a wee layby to pull in for the night..



When i got the step doon and went inside the cats inside their baskets had rolled back against the wall. the look i got from both them at the indignity of having to travel upside doon with their food dishes as hats and the water bowls having emptied their contents in they bed .was priceless and with an angry swish of their tails they both headed past me heads held high ignoring me as they made their way oot the door .

A few minutes later though and they were back both rubbing up aside my leg happy at their new home ..



so all at the hovel is harmony again..

Well until the next wee journey ..

Mobile hovel up and running again . Found 2 shorts .1 earth on starter
and another on the alternator.

Just slow doon

I wish people would just slow doon. We were woken by 2 cars pulling in
last night. Part of the conversation i heard was how LUCKY they had
been that the headlights were ok. Woke this morning to a young deer
left on the road dead both front legs broken and face smashed in . And
all for a few minutes saved on the journey.

SONG WRITING COMPETITION

SONG WRITING COMPETITION

The idea?
To write and record a very high quality song that best reflects the talent
that we have here in Scotland.
Participants MUST be Members of the Scotland Is Alive With Music (SIAWM) Group.
The song should focus on exhibiting/capturing a feel for Scotland and its musical heritage.
So?
The song title can be anything and need not be entitled "Scotland Is Alive
With Music" nor feature these words (grouped in this way) in the
lyrics. It would be great though, if the song title and/or lyrics did support the concept of Scotland being (as it is) alive with music.
All entrants must write a song, put music to it, record it (the recording
can be done in a bedroom if need be) and submit the recorded composition to SIAWM as a playable file.
We're in the process of pulling together a team of "judges", who will select
the 6 compositions that they consider to be best contenders for possibly winning.
These 6 compositions will then be published through SIAWM and a voting system established.
Members of the Scotland Is Alive With Music Group will be allowed to vote
and the winning song will be the one with the most votes.
In the very unlikely event of a dead heat the Founder of Scotland Is Alive With Music will have the deciding vote.
The winning entry will win 4 hours of recording time at a high quality recording studio (mastering will be done by their personnel).
The finished "product" will then get the full support of SIAWM in its promotion to the public.

The timetable?

* ALL who intend to participate should intimate that intention to SIAWM by
e-mail BEFORE submitting their composition (e-mail address below).

* All entries to be attached to an e-mail and sent to gee_580@yahoo.co.uk

* Submissions to be made between midnight August 8 and midnight September 30.

* "Best 6" as decided by the "judging panel" will be announced midnight 9 October.

* Voting by SIAWM Members will commence from midnight 9 October and continue until
midnight 6 November

* Winning entry will be announced on the SIAWM Page (PLEASE NOTE that this is the Page) NOT the Group no later than midnight 14 October.
To be informed of the announcement, members of SIAWM will need to have "liked" the SIAWM Page.

Broken doon

Broken doon with starter problems. 3.00 am miles from anywhere , the
rain bouncing off the road with Mel brolly in hand and me clambering
under the truck with hammer and torch . A plan to hitch to my mates
just forming when oot the gloom a transit from Network rail
emerged. A guy got oot and asked if he could help. And ten minutes
later and a wee bump start we were on the road again . Many thanks

Burner gone to two offgriders

Just sold the burner to a lovely couple that are going off grid. They
brought us baccy ,biscuits and bread and offered us a parkup on SKYE .

Daily workout

Swapping between skills one minute a mechanic the next an electrician
quickly followed by carpenter ( as the cats find fault in an earlier
fixed shelf ,as they leap to the highest vantage place in the truck )
. Then its computor engineer ( a shite one ) as that wee box refuses
to fire up . But one thing i dont have to do with the steps to truck
is worry about not visiting the GYM...
