The simplicity of life

butterfly 041

Waking up today in the mountains again we are treated to a full on snow storm all around the bus and truck the drifts are now some 6 to 8 feet and building ,last night the front door to the bus was not closed right which resulted in the cab filling up with a huge drift (another wee job on the list replace the doors with a good solid wooden door)

Last night standing down by the river the clouds and drifts of snow combining to form a huge natural dome not unlike St Pauls or some similar building and with the moon managing to drive its yellowy beam earthward it truly was a time to rejoice in the simplicity of life in the mountains

Staring westward into the wall of snow and with a faint light cast all around a huge wall of snow seem to head towards me gathering height as if any minute it would engulf me on its journey westward ,then through the snow two lights appeared and still it roared towards me

almost before i had time to fully explain this strange occurrence the snow plough passed at some 20mph and in a matter of seconds was enveloped into the snow storm onwards ever onwards in the battle to keep the road clear .

Again today was filled with clearing the track and checking everything ,running the truck up etc frogs etc 008 wind genny 009wind genny 008-1

(i have 3 of these garden solar lights which supply all the lighting for the bus , power is via 6 wee batteries total of 9v )this supplies more than enough lighting

we are now running at a little over 100 watts of power ( this is only when i have he laptop ,satellites and tv running )and thanks to the wind turbine i am gathering enough energy just one slight problem i need more batteries ( another wee job)

Listening to the weather forecast has really started to annoy me no matter what the weather the forecasters seem to treat us to their opinion of it, to much ,not enough rain to much snow etc etc ,just tell us what is coming and let some of us enjoy the wind, rain ,snow ,sun etc without the constant negative thoughts …

I had another enquiry with regards posting a shop on my blog and i am so glad at last that i am starting to make a wee bit of money from my work etc on line

although i have been moaned at for having ads on here ,that is how i earn a living as all my other work films and pics the money from them goes to various charity’s

I had someone moaning about the ads then asked me to place a link to HER shop/site but when i asked would that not be another ad except i wouldn’t get paid ,she got the hump and not heard anything else again

Tomorrow i am off to make a wee film i hope you will enjoy it ??

Am i not allow to earn a living ,

Andy the Daft Hermit lives 45 minutes outside Inverness with his wife Mel in an old bus parked in a layby. This current home of theirs is the longest they have ever stayed in one spot. “I’ve been travelling now 25 years,” said Andy Lowe. “Mel’s been travelling 15. One of the reasons we’ve come and stayed up here is because of Mel’s health. I wanted to bring her to the mountains for fresh air and clean water and just a slower pace of life.” Mel has had breast cancer twice, skin cancer once, and for three years believed she had bone cancer after being wrongly diagnosed. Andy’s belief in the restorative powers of the north made them pack up ‘The Black Bus’ that they live in and cross the border into Scotland. New Highland home for hermit couple Andy and Mel “I think we both believe in trying to get to a more simple way of life,” said Andy, “but it’s strange for us because we are sort of hermits, or we like to live separate, but it’s not being anti-social… it’s just the way we are that allows us to be creative.” Andy first began travelling when he left the army. Fed up with bureaucracy he packed a rucksack and left for France and has been travelling ever since. By investing any money the couple have earned into solar panels and wind generators they now live a self-sustaining existence, without electric bills, and collect rain water “straight from Heaven”. “It’s not easy,” said Mel. “There might be time when there might not be enough facilities around, but you always find a way, you know?” Rather than rejecting technology, Andy blogs about his travels online and collaborates with artists from around the world via his ‘Scratchy Heid Film Studio’, which he runs from a static trailer next to the couple’s bus. He explained his philosophy: “My belief is that if you can go through life and you drop dead and you’ve got a balance there that slightly outweighs the good than the bad, you’ve done alright. “Yesterday, with what Mel’s been through with the cancer and all that, I had a woman on one of my sites there that thanked me for the writing, for the positive things, and to me that’s worth everything. You can keep your millions, we’re not interested. That is what we do.” To check out Andy’s artwork and video projects check out his website. MORE FROM THE NORTH
